Online Tuition in Chennai

Support for Chennai's CBSE, ICSE and Tamil Nadu State Board (Samacheer Kalvi) students, in a city known for taking academics seriously.

CBSEICSEState Board

Chennai has a genuinely strong academic culture, and its schools — whether CBSE, ICSE or Tamil Nadu State Board's Samacheer Kalvi syllabus — expect real depth, especially in Mathematics and Science. We match our lessons to your child's specific board and textbook rather than a one-size syllabus, so classes build directly on what's already been taught at school.

For many Chennai families, Hindi is a subject learned mainly at school rather than spoken at home, which can make it feel more difficult than it should. We spend real time on the basics there, alongside English comprehension and writing, Math and Science fundamentals, and Kannada for Karnataka-origin families settled in the city.

Why parents choose Vihakids for this

  • Matched to CBSE, ICSE and Tamil Nadu State Board (Samacheer Kalvi) coursework
  • Real depth in Mathematics and Science, matching Chennai's academic pace
  • Extra patience for Hindi as a second language, not spoken at home
  • Kannada support for Karnataka-origin families based in Chennai

Samacheer Kalvi and the two-language rule in Chennai

Tamil Nadu’s state schools use the Samacheer Kalvi textbooks and sit the SSLC at the end of Class 10. Chennai also has strong CBSE and ICSE schools, so the same street can have children on three quite different Class 10 papers.

Tamil Nadu follows a two-language pattern — Tamil and English — so Hindi usually appears only in CBSE and ICSE schools here. That is worth knowing if your child moves from a state school to CBSE mid-way: Hindi may start several years behind where the class is. We teach English, Hindi, Mathematics and Science, and Hindi from scratch is a common request from Chennai families. We do not teach Tamil.

Questions parents ask

My child had no Hindi in a state school and now needs it in CBSE. Can you start from the beginning?

Yes. Tamil Nadu’s two-language pattern means many children meet Hindi for the first time when they move to a CBSE or ICSE school. We start from the alphabet and basic reading if that is where your child is, not from the chapter the class happens to be on.

Do you teach Tamil, or follow the Samacheer Kalvi books?

We follow the Samacheer Kalvi textbooks for Mathematics, Science and English, so state board children are well covered. Tamil itself we do not teach — our subjects are English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science and Kannada.

Are your tutors in Chennai, and do they come home?

Our tutors are based in India — Bengaluru mostly — and every class is live and online, one-on-one over video. So no, we do not send a tutor to your home in Chennai; what you get instead is a tutor who is free to be chosen for how well they teach your child’s board and subject rather than for living nearby.
